Gothic Project

My artwork is a realistic reflection on the Gothic Period and its decorative designs, based on its use of gold and color, font, borders, and floral stylizations. I decided to incorporate the New York Yankees, one of my favorite sports teams, into a homage piece in the style of a gothic initial. The borders are adorned with gold and floral designs, and the Yankee glyph has its own gold boundary. Moreover, there is interlacing with these initials from the subway, which has the (4) on the left side represented in green, and the (D) on the right side represented in orange.

For the Greek and Roman project, there were a variety of options for what to work on. I decided to make a stylized caryatid portrait, since I thought it would suit me and my art style best in comparison with the other two choices. I used a lot of Ancient Greek and Roman characteristics in my project, notably in the columns, which mimic the look and adornments of an ionic column, and the base of the caryatid mimics the base of many Greek and Roman statues. The figure, which is supposed to represent me, is idealized, having a muscular, tall frame, and exaggerated baggy clothing.

The artwork I made for the Egyptian Project is an allusion to the tablet art present in ancient Egyptian documents, emphasizing symmetry, registers, and scale. I used all of these defines graciously in my piece. I used the subway as the center-point to my piece, as the majority of New Yorkers use it to commute to work or school. The cars on the row (street) above represent a higher class, as it costs a lot of money to insure and maintain a car in NYC, especially with the awful driving that New York and New Jersey drivers are defamed for having. A homeless person is on the tracks in front of the train, preventing the train from moving. This is known to be a typical reason as to why trains get re-routed or delayed during busy commute hours, and this is an example of how the needs of the less fortunate are not being met by the city government.
